Our Evolution
Our StoryMasonry & plaster is where it all began…The late 1940’s was a hard time to make a living in the country and south Baton Rouge, La. was no exception. Luckily, I had two grandfathers that were willing to do whatever necessary to learn and excel at their trades, which in turn would allow them to provide for their families. Grandpa Harvey Honore, Sr. was a skilled mason working alongside family and friends, and Grandpa Alvin DeCuir was a skilled plasterer doing the same. Both of which were extremely talented and gave a long hard days’ work for a fair price... 7 days a week if necessary, which was often the case. They took pride in their work and if something wasn’t right, they made sure to make it so. They were men worth their salt, but not only in their respective trades but more importantly to their families.
In 1953, Grandpa Alvin moved to Los Angeles seeking the HIGH demand of the west coast construction boom. He had a long successful career working over 41 years across southern California until eventually retiring in 1994. He resides in Huntington Beach, CA today at the age of 98.
Pop Harvey, in 1957, set out to start a general contracting construction company in Baton Rouge with a focus on self-performing masonry. After years the company grew and began focusing on larger commercial, government and industrial projects. Pop passed away in 1983 at the young age of 52, which was 6 months before I was born.
Today, our team at HONORÉ MASONRY + STUCCO is structured for success and capable of servicing clients throughout the gulf south with a strategic goal of expansion within the next 5 years. However, we know this requires the power of our people, and we’ve assembled a focus driven team that carries the same HONORÉ principles formed almost 70 years ago. It’s our mission to keep our family legacy alive and preserve it for generations to come.
Aaron Honoré
President
Thirty-one years after my father’s death I still have people come up to me and tell me how kind and good a man he was,” says Harvey Honoré Jr. “I’ve never had one of them say anything that wasn’t positive. I never really saw him get upset about anything. He handled everything that came his way with patience and compassion.”
Until his death at 52, general contractor Harvey Honoré Sr. was one of Baton Rouge’s most active and beloved civic leaders, a self-made businessman, husband and father of seven with a reputation for fairness and generosity.
Our founder was selected to be part of the Hall of Fame in the Baton Rouge Business Report as of July 2015. Please enjoy the full story here:
